Farmer Chris's Shepherd's Pie

🥧 Shepherd’s Pie 🥧
A hearty, cast-iron classic made with ingredients from the Farmstand.
🛒 Ingredients
(Serves 4–5 | Feed a family for under $38)
1lb Lilac Hedge Farm Beef
1 onion, diced
2 Cloves Garlic
5 Russet Potatoes
5 Carrots
2 Rutabaga
2 Celery Root
1 Pint Mushrooms
Chicken or Veggie Stalk
Salt & Pepper
Cinnamon
Garlic Powder
Cumin
Olive oil
For the Mushroom Gravy
Wash your mushrooms and dice them on your cutting board
Heat an aluminum pan with oil over low heat on the stove
Sauté your mushrooms until soft, and add chicken stock
Salt and pepper and reduce the heat to lowest setting possible
For The Potatoes
Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes
Boil water with salt on the stove, place potatoes, rutabaga, and celery root in pot
Boil until you can place a fork easily through the veggies
Transfer from the stove and mash with butter/ ghee / oat milk if you choose!
For the Beef (preferably in a cast iron skillet)
Heat a skillet over medium-high.
Add diced onion and cook 2–3 minutes until softened.
Add ground beef and break it apart
Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, ground cinnamon, and cumin
Cook until browned and transfer to a bowl
Do not clean the cast iron! Transfer cut veggies into the cast iron
For The Veggies
In the already heated cast iron, place your chopped carrots, parsnips, and celery root into cubes inside
Add Salt, Pepper, and Chicken Stock.
Cook until the vegetables are softened!
LETS ASSEMBLE
Add the ground beef on top of the softened veggies,the mushroom gravy, spread the mash potatoes top with a sprinkle of paprika if you like and bake in oven at 350* until golden brown. could be 15-20 minutes...
