Farmstand ShopKeepers

Here at White Barn Farm we are seeking full-time and part-time shopkeepers to staff our farm stand (which includes the CSA and farm store) from late May until late October. To apply, please contact info@whitebarnfarm.org

Schedule:

  • Store coverage is needed Tuesday - Friday 10am - 6pm and Saturday & Sunday 10am – 4pm.
  • Weekday shifts are usually 8:30am – 1:30pm and 1pm – 7pm. Weekend shifts would be 8:30am – 5pm with a one hour (unpaid) break. For the right candidate these shifts could be modified to fit availability.
  • The exact schedule for the season will be arranged with each shopkeeper. Minimum commitment of 20 hours/week.
  • Position runs late May until late October with the possibility of part time hours in November.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere in the farm stand.
  • Answer customer questions about produce and the farm’s growing practices.
  •  Maintain an attractive produce display throughout the day. Bagging, bunching, and sorting produce, and restocking as necessary.
  • Keep the farm stand and shed organized and clean.
  • Calculate and make change for customer purchases using our POS (point of sale) system, Shopkeep. All of the items have icons on an ipad with an associated price. Your job is to correctly identify and select the item coming through. Occasionally you will be asked to add new items to the screen using the “backoffice” part of the program.
  • Keep track of product inventory and notify farm managers if anything is running low.
  • Harvest small items as needed such as herbs or cherry tomatoes.
  • Break down farm stand produce display at the end of the day. Closing responsibilities include carrying bins of produce back to the cooler, cleaning the farm stand and closing the barn and farm stand for the evening.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with customer service.
  • Familiarity cooking with fresh, seasonal produce.
  • Positive attitude, good sense of humor and strong work ethic.
  • An eye for color, attractive, abundant displays, and high quality standards will help
  • Ability to lift and carry 40lbs over uneven ground.
  • Organized, responsible, punctual and attentive to detail.

Compensation:

  • Pay starts at $12/hour. The Shopkeeper will also receive a CSA membership (weekly vegetables starting in May, ending with last week of employment).
