Summer Share, Week #5

Hi All! 

Hope you all had a great holiday last week. I spent some time with my extended family on a lake. Great way to survive the heat! Happy to be home this week and back to feeding just my family! We are looking forward to a bountiful share this week! Pick up is from 10 - 6 on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, whichever day you signed up for. And don't forget, Jordan Brothers Seafood Truck will be at the Farmstand on Tuesday from 2 - 6. 

Here's what's in it:

  • 1 Bunch of Scallions
  • 1 Head of Lettuce
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 Quart of Potatoes
  • Choice of one: Frisée, Escarole, Dandelion Greens or Raddicio
  • Choice of Three: Beets, Carrots, Fresh Onions, Radish, Kale, Bag of Turnips, Head of Cabbage (any variety)

I've been excited about the Beets, they are so bright! They are great roasted (on the grill-too hot for the oven!) and added to a salad with bitter greens (Radiccio anyone?) and Narragansett Mozzarella. Or maybe I'll make Roasted Beet Dip, great for dipping bread or crackers. And since I'm just not turning on my oven, I think I'll be adding grilled onions to just about everything. My kids have been asking me to make my home made onion dip - just grilled Fresh Onions to some whole milk yogurt. Have you tried our newest yogurt? It is a plain, whole fat yogurt from Sweet and Salty Farms - but don't worry the yogurt isn't sweet or salty - just deliciously tangy! We just happen to have all of those things right here at the Farmstand - come do your shopping with us!

If your friends are asking, we still have room in the Summer Share. We have pick ups available on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The price is prorated for the number of weeks remaining. 

I think most of us have the hang of it by now, but if not, pick up is easy. Bring some bags to the Farmstand and find the chalkboard with the list for this week's share. Everything should be labeled but if not, just give us a shout and we will help you find what you are looking for. Then you swing by the register so that we can check you off the list. Planning a vacation? If you would like, invite a friend to pick up in your place. Have them follow the same routine above and give your name at the desk. If all of your friends are away too, let us know and we will donate your share to one of our local food pantries.
