Happy National CSA Day!

Posted 2/21/2019 9:24pm by Christy and Chris Kantlehner.

Another Random Modern Holiday approaches - It is National CSA Day! Time to be aware of community supporting agriculture. Hey! I run a small vegetable farm in the middle of suburbia and depend directly on community support. So I am exploiting it. HAPPY NATIONAL CSA DAY!!!!!!

Before I start in on the CSA tirade, one announcement: there are a few openings in Laurene Hulbig's Terrarium Workshop at the White Barn Farm greenhouse this Saturday, February 23rd, 1-3pm. The Wine&Design Series continues! Grab a friend and a bottle of wine (if you like). Laurene will provide all the materials, instruction, light snacks, and wine glasses. Reserve your spot!

Now onto the CSA Appreciation Explosion!!

The Spring CSA is only $100 and it guarantees you get greens in the early spring. It's 5 weeks long - May 10th to June 7th. Pick up on Fridays at our Farmstand, 10-6. SIGN UP FOR THE SPRING CSA

Spring Share possibilities: Arugula, Baby Kale, Spinach, Head Lettuce, Lettuce Mix, Spicy Salad Mix, Bok Choy, Cilantro, Dill, Frisee, Fennel, Green Garlic, Kale, Chard, Kohlrabi, Radishes, Pea Tendrils, and Salad Turnips. Last year some of the early shares included dry beans, or locally grown mushrooms - irreghaaadless - the value each week is around $20 - a manageable size for the busy modern family and most definitely for a bored old fashioned family.

If you sign up and pay for Spring, Summer, and Fall by March 1st, we will send you a $20 WBF Gift Card. That deadline is approaching quickly. If you were thinking about it, now's the time!

In November, we move our farmstand to the right side of the big White Barn (directly across the street from our summer tent). At that time, the Fall Share begins and pickups are on Fridays again! Our fall share is $160 and goes for 8 weeks. Pick up is every Friday (in the past we did bi-weekly shares in fall - but since we are open every week anyway that system doesn't make sense). A Pop-Up Market is brewing but depends on the perfect storm of spinach growth, pea tendril emergence, and driveway accessibility. Stay Tuned!

oh yes. actual farm news: The very first seeds have sprouted! The radishes and turnips I seeded in our small unheated tunnel were finally up when I checked on them today! Some of the perennials are waking up in the greenhouse, too. The purple protruberances (if that's not a word it should be) of Columbine were pushing up through the completely dead looking remains of last year's plants. I am such a sucker for plants. Just love 'em! So resilient!

Thank you, friends!! Please tell anyone who may be interested in supporting our farm about the CSA! It's bound to lead to some good eats and good health!

Happy CSA!!

Christy at White Barn Farm,

supported by Farmer Chris, Kindergartener Graham, the WBF crew and all of you!
